Science through translational Research in Diet and Exercise (STRIDE) is an emerging university-wide, multi-disciplinary, translational research project, initiated in 2007 by the Cal Poly Kinesiology Department. In Winter 2009, we had ~250 students representing 5 colleges from 11 majors.
Mission Statement:
STRIDE's goal is to support existing agencies of the central coast in promoting healthy weight across the lifespan.
We will accomplish this by:
- Designing and assessing novel, comprehensive community-based education and intervention programs.
- Fostering the exercise and nutrition habits, skills and behaviors necessary to advance health in individuals.
- Translating the existing scientific and medical literature into feasible and sustainable community-based programs to be conducted by the central coast agencies.
- It is also our intention to strengthen the position of both the university and San Luis Obispo community agencies to secure additional funding for health promotion.
